·
Watch the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ5LEgk1fKo.
Then, based on this video, class notes, and the Rice text, answer the following
prompt:
o
A large part of psychology deals with
understanding what suffering is, why we suffer, and how to end such
suffering. What is the Christian
worldview approach to suffering? What is the humanistic/non-Christian approach
to suffering? How might psychological treatment and counseling change depending
on those worldviews? Consider the differing views on suffering that would drive
and direct a counseling or psychotherapeutic approach. In your opinion, would
treatment of disorders be more beneficial stemming from a Christian or
humanistic theory of suffering? Why?
§

Due Tuesday, 9/11
·
Read pages 23-29 (until Neuro-biology) of the
Rice Text.
·
Read pages 28 (starting at Protestantism and
Science)-the Summary on page 37 of the Entwistle text.
·
At this point, we have learned a lot about
worldview and how one’s worldview profoundly affects our understanding of
psychology. One of the most predominant worldviews to pervade psychology is
that of naturalism, inspired in large part by the work of Charles Darwin.
o
Create two lists of bullet points. One list will
be labeled “Naturalism”, under which you will write (Charles Darwin). The other
list will be labeled “Christianity”, under which you will write (the
Bible). Using your textbooks and notes,
identify at least 10 different contrasting points to be made between those
worldviews (ex: Anything but God is responsible for our existence VS. God is
the reason for existence).
§
Make sure all of your bullet points are coherent
and are written in complete sentences.
§
You may do this as a simple set-up in a word
document OR you may make this creative.
§
Regardless of whatever method you choose, YOU
MUST include a Works Cited page with your bullet point (on a separate
page). APA is the specified format.
Everything you get your information from for this assignment must be included
on the Works Cited page.
