·       In-Class: Neurotransmitters and neuronal functioning
·       Review Buffini Podcast questions
·       Due Thursday:
o   Read pg. 39 of Rice text up to “The Brain”.
·       Read from the following link: https://www.khanacademy.org/science/biology/human-biology/neuron-nervous-system/a/overview-of-neuron-structure-and-function
o   Then, draw out and label a neuron by hand.  It may be on an 8 ½ x 11 sheet of blank white paper or on a small poster board. It should include the following labels:
§  Dendrites
§  Axon
§  Terminal Buttons
§  Soma
§  Myelin Sheath
§  Nucleus
§  The action potential
o   Draw out and label the transmission of neurochemicals between cells, as seen in the website listed above. This may be on the back of the same paper, on another sheet of blank paper, or on another part of your poster board, depending on which medium you choose. Label the following aspects:
§  Presynaptic cell
§  Synaptic gap
§  Neurotransmitters (NTs)
§  Postsynaptic gap
§  Receptors
